The investigators believe that the attacker, who police identified as Nathan, was an "unstable person" and his apparently random stabbing spree had no terror motive behind it.

One person has died after a man stabbed passers-by in a Paris suburb on Friday afternoon, French police said.

Local prosecutor Laure Beccuau said her department was working closely with the national anti-terrorism unit on the investigation.

The attacker had a history of mental illness, had been admitted to hospital a few months ago, and was undergoing a course of psychiatric treatment, the spokesman said.

French prosecutors are investigating a knife attack near Paris as a possible case of terrorism.

The attack happened in the town of Villejuif, about 8km south of central Paris.

Samsung is expected to have a huge CES 2020 event next week, at least according to recent teasers and reports. Galaxy M11 will get Violet while M21 gets Green and finally, Galaxy M31 gets Red as its third color variants.

The incident occurred on Friday in a park in the suburban area Villejuif.

France's Deputy Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, who later visited the scene, praised the police response, calling it an "extremely courageous act".

The assailant fled to the L'Hay-les-Roses commune, where he was confronted by police outside a Carrefour supermarket.

The attacker had targeted the victim's wife, and the man was fatally stabbed when he intervened to protect her. Earlier a local magistrate told a press conference that Nathan C. had shouted the Muslim invocation "Allahu Akbar" (God is Greatest) during the attack. Members of the anti-criminal brigade were first on the scene, and shot a number of rounds at the man.

More than 230 people were killed in terrorist attacks in France in 2015 and 2016, a lot of them claimed by the Islamic State (IS) extremist group.
