In just a space of three hours, we have several twists to the story regarding South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka's existence in Uganda.

According to the police, Chaka Chaka entered the country with an ordinary visa which was cancelled by immigration officials after it was realised she had come to perform in one of the new year events.

"She was advised together with her promoters to apply for a working visa for her music performance and avoid the pretense of being an ordinary visitor".

"The ordinary visa does not allow her to perform in any income generating activity in the country", Enanga said. He said this was done to help maintain the integrity of the immigration rules for all visitors in the country.

It was earlier said that she was initially detained at Pearl of Africa Hotel in Nakasero, where she reportedly spent the night.

She was scheduled to perform at the Buganda Kingdom's organized end of year annual event popularly known as Enkuuka ya CBS.

The protest movement has since become quieter but sporadic clashes have persisted. In 2019, around 10 million people were lifted out of poverty, he said.

"He did not invite her directly, she was invited by Abitex Promotions who have also organised a number of Mr Kyagulanyi's (Bobi Wine) concerts, but you know she is a good friend", he said.

However, it is believed that the praises heaped on Wine, who is already in government's bad books, earned her the deportation.

Security forces are said to have cordoned off the hotel and ordered her to stop her rehearsal. She had made a decision to return home, she claimed, because she did "not understand" what was happening.

Other reports suggest that her trouble with Ugandan authorities began after she described singer-cum-MP Bobi Wine as "the next Mandela". According to Museveni, since in Bobi Wine's assessment, Ugandans are poor, then he should be performing to get their little money. However, even in the face of the official statement, Chaka Chaka was still insisting that she had not been deported.

Interestingly, in a video she posted on her Twitter handle at 7.28 pm, Chaka Chaka denied being deported by Ugandan authorities, saying she wasn't kidnapped or deported as has been reported.

"I know my country is worried, my people are worried, my husband is worried, everybody is worried but I am fine".
