Iran: Germany disagrees with US

German FM criticizes Trump's threat of sanctions to Iraq Iran: Germany disagrees with US

Mr Trump has threatened to target 52 Iranian sites, including ones of cultural importance, after Tehran threatened to retaliate over Friday's killing of Maj Gen Soleimani in a U.S. drone strike. It was not immediately clear whether there were USA casualties.

Soleimani "was responsible for a pattern of disruptive, destabilising behaviour in the region".

Speaking to German public radio (DLF), Maas expressed deep concern about the Iraqi parliament's decision to expel U.S. troops from the country in response to the USA assassination of Iranian general Qassem Suleimani in Baghdad last week. This is in addition to the 5,200 US troops already stationed in Iraq in order to push a hostile USA agenda against Iran.

Mourners step over USA flags under a picture of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani who was killed in an American air strike in Iraq.

"We reaffirm our commitment to continue the fight against the Islamic State, which remains a priority".

Meantime, the USA coalition combating IS in Iraq and Syria announced that it has "paused" training of Iraqi security forces in order to focus on protecting coalition personnel.

He said the USA had previously sought to "challenge and attack everybody who was running around with an AK-47 or a piece of indirect artillery".

"We are very anxious that instability in Iraq will surely increase without the worldwide community's engagement against ISIS", Maas told DLF.

Petrol price increased by Rs 2.61/litre
The OGRA had proposed raising Rs2.25 per litre on high-speed diesel, while Rs3.10 on kerosene oil. QP has not changed the price for petrol - both super and premium - and diesel in January.

Following Soleimani's death on Friday, Iran vowed "harsh retaliation".

"The intelligence assessment made clear that no action - allowing Soleimani to continue his plotting and his planning, his terror campaign - created more risk than taking the action that we took last week", Pompeo said.

Iran has promised "harsh revenge" for the latest United States attack, which shocked Iranians across all political lines.

"We'll behave inside the system", Pompeo said.

In remarks to Fox News on Sunday, Pompeo said Trump had not threatened to target Iranian cultural sites. Trump has tweeted numerous times over the weekend that the USA would be quick to respond to any Iranian attacks. The U.N. Security Council also passed unanimously a resolution in 2017 condemning the destruction of heritage sites.

"Every target that we strike will be a lawful target, and it will be a target designed with a singular mission - defending and protecting America", Pompeo said.

"I find it hard to believe the Pentagon would provide Trump targeting options that include Iranian cultural sites", said Colin Kahl who was National Security Adviser to former vice president Joe Biden. In insisting that any USA attacks will be legal, Pompeo said Trump "was getting to this point" without making it in his tweet Saturday.
