Facebook rolls out tool to block off-Facebook data gathering

What is Facebook’s new ‘Off-Facebook Activity’ tool and can you shut it off? Facebook's Off-Facebook Activity tool is now available to everyone

It shows you what third-party sites and apps share data with Facebook about your activities when you visit them.

You can find it under "Facebook information" in the site's settings. Facebook is under fire again, accused of sharing private messages and other user information with other companies.

Everything we do online generates an extensive amount of behavioral data, from buying clothes to looking for hotels, which apps and websites often share with advertising companies, allowing them to build more accurate profiles of your interests and needs.

The tool has three key functions: showing the list of sites/apps and the interactions they have shared with Facebook (from the news you read to the product you opened at Myntra/Flipkart), disconnecting that data history, and managing future interactions. Also provides options to manage individual items that you have blocked using "Manage your Off-Facebook Activity".

Off-Facebook activity can be tracked in the latest version of the app or on the Facebook website. To be clear, if you turn it off, Facebook will still receive information about your activity, it just won't be associated with your account.

This is what Facebook says when you select the clear history option.

Top players now avoiding Man United - Berbatov
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken a thinly-veiled dig at midfielder Paul Pogba's commitment to the club. It remains to be seen whether the Norwegian tactician will be given as long as a German rival to get things right.

The new privacy-conscious Mark Zuckerberg said in a shorter than usual post that Facebook is giving you more control over your privacy.

The name also puts more distance between the data collection processes and the data-sharing bit.

Well, after months of delay, "Clear History" is now available to all Facebook users worldwide. Note that Facebook doesn't actually delete that data. His company remains in the spotlight over ongoing controversies like Facebook's refusal to fact-check political ads. Facebook tracks people that have Facebook accounts AND people who do not have Facebook accounts. A new tool that gives you more control of your data. If consumers embrace the tool, it could drive down the value of ads, because they would theoretically be less effective. "The information you disconnect will no longer be connected to your account". A few of you discovered unfortunate side effects to changing your settings to tell Facebook to stop tracking you.

If you're very concerned about the data that Facebook holds on you, it's worth clearing your history by clicking on the 'Clear History'.

Facebook has warned for several quarters that growing at the same rate will be more hard in the future.
