
The United States on Thursday appreciated Pakistan's efforts in securing the release of western hostages from Afghanistan.
The premier held a telephonic conversation with the U.S. president, wherein both leaders discussed bilateral relations and the regional situation.
U.S. President Donald Trump has called Pakistan's prime minister Imran Khan and Afghan president Ashraf Ghani to thank them for facilitating the release of an American and an Australian who were held hostage by the Taliban since 2016.
However, Trump still looks to withdraw troops from Afghanistan US officials said Washington would continue to support efforts for an "enduring outcome" and would even support the continued Indian involvement in that country, despite the fact that it could create consternation in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister re-affirmed Pakistan's commitment to the advancement of the Afghan peace process. The two top leaders have also agreed to work together to achieve common objectives in the future. Later, the meeting between Imran Khan and President Trump in Washington this July gave a positive dimension to the otherwise roller-coaster bilateral ties as the discussion featured Trump's mediation offer on Kashmir.
