Epstein, Prince Andrew abuse a 'really scary time': Virginia Roberts Giuffre

The West Bengal-based charity's founder Aloka Mitra said she was "shocked" by the sexual abuse allegations against the Duke.

Giuffre in an hour-long interview with the BBC recalls the period as "a really scary time in my life".

"[The prince] knows what happened, I know what happened".

Ms Giuffre has claimed in court papers in Florida that she was forced to have sex with Andrew when she was aged 17, under the state's age of consent. While it was the Queen who actually delivered the news to her favourite son and informed the rest of the Firm, Charles was said to be very involved in the decision.

The fallout has been made abundantly clear this week with the absence of Andrew's name on the list for the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders reception at Buckingham Palace.

On Monday, Giuffre accused Scotland Yard of corruption, writing on Twitter: "At first the Scotland Yard told me they were going to forensically examine GM's [Ghislaine Maxwell's] house in London - next thing I hear, just like the FBI, they were not allowed to pursue the investigation".

Prince Andrew, who played a major role in the President's last trip has been barred from attending the event by Queen Elizabeth, according to the Daily Mail.

Giuffre spoke to ABC about her claims in 2015 but the network "quashed" the story under pressure.

She says the force failed to check her allegation that she had been trafficked to London in 2001 by Epstein.

British police said on Thursday an allegation against the late financier Jeffrey Epstein regarding trafficking for sexual exploitation would not proceed to a full criminal investigation, maintaining a previously made decision.

He added: "Officers assessed the available evidence, interviewed the complainant and obtained early investigative advice from the Crown Prosecution Service".

Metropolitan Police Cmdr. Alex Murray said the department interviewed Roberts - who was not named in the statement - and consulted with prosecutors before concluding in November 2016 that it "was not the appropriate authority to conduct inquiries in these circumstances".

"Following the legal advice, it was clear that any investigation into human trafficking would be largely focused on activities and relationships outside the UK" he said.

The Met reviewed that decision in August after Epstein took his own life in United States custody while he was awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The Metropolitan Police's Murray said police reviewed its decision after Epstein's death and decided not to change policy. The alleged incident which is said to have occurred on June 30, 2000, was a security breach as the woman was not searched and did not sign in when entering the royal palace.
