Apple releases iOS 13.2 with new emoji, Deep Fusion camera improvements, more

Noel Elliott | 29 October, 2019, 00:23

In a support document published over the weekend, Apple warns that those with the older iPhone will need to update their devices to iOS 10.3.4 by November 3 at 12:00 a.m. UTC (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on November 2) if they want to keep using them.

From what's now understood, fourth-generation iPads are also affected by the change although the only functionality that'll be affected is Global Positioning System.

This means every 1024 weeks, or around 19.7 years, the counter rolls over, which can cause problems for programs and devices that rely on Global Positioning System for the correct date and time but haven't been coded correctly to account for the rollover. If you forget to install the software on your iPhone 5 by November 3, you'll have to backup and restore to a computer before moving to the newer iOS release.

'This is due to the Global Positioning System time rollover issue that began affecting GPS-enabled products from other manufacturers on April 6, 2019. "Affected Apple devices are not impacted until just before 12:00 a.m. UTC on November 3, 2019", the company added.

If you or someone you know is still clinging on to an iPhone 5, it needs to be updated within the next week to iOS 10.3.4, otherwise the handset is going to lose a serious amount of functionality.

You can update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to iOS 13.2 in the Settings app under General Software Update.

Apple rolled out its iOS 13 software last month and although it is packed with an array of changes, such as picture editing, menstrual tracking and improved privacy features, it has also come along with a few bugs.

Apple has yet to release an official statement, but a battery draining issue appears to be affecting a variety of models -from the iPhone 6 to the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Apple today released iOS 13.2 for the iPhone and iPadOS 13.2 for the iPad.

Over-the-air software updates will immediately become unavailable too, although there is a solution to this one.
